Mrs. Patricia Stansbury Anderson passed away on July 10, 2011 after a long illness. A memorial service will be held at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 14 at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends following the service in the Asbury Room at the church.
Mrs. Anderson was born on June 11, 1934 in Macon, Georgia, but spent most of her early life in Wake Forest and Durham, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Dale F. Stansbury and Mabel Heuser Stansbury.
Mrs. Anderson attended public school in Durham, NC and graduated from Duke University with a degree in English. She studied in Spain on a Fulbright Scholarship. She received her Master’s degree in Education from UNC-Chapel Hill and did additional graduate work at NC State and Appalachian State. She taught in the North Carolina public school system for 30 years. The last 18 years of her career were at High Point Central High School where she taught English and advised the yearbook staff.
Pat was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading, photography, travel and sewing in addition to spending time with her family. She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church where she served as a Stephen Minister and as a member of the United Methodist Women. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She was a member of the PEO organization and was instrumental in founding the High Point chapter.
Pat is survived by her husband of 45 years, Warren (Bill) Anderson, her three daughters, Martha Dobson and husband, Allen, of Mt. Pleasant, NC, Venetia Skahen and husband, Jim, of Concord, NC, Mary Riddick and husband, Michael, of Kinston, NC, grandchildren Robert, Elizabeth and Sara Dobson, Catherine and Rebecca Skahen, Molly and Matthew Riddick, and one great-grandchild, Kayleigh Dobson. She is also survived by a sister, Betty Ambrose and a close friend since high school, Becky Dukes of Hyattsville, MD. Her brothers, Alan and Gene Stansbury, preceded her in death. The family wishes to express special thanks to Pat’s caregivers for their devoted care: Tammy Wright, Amber Locklear, Mary Montgomery and Virginia Montague.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Hospice of the Piedmont or River Landing at Sandy Ridge. Sechrest Funeral Home of High Point is serving the family of Mrs. Anderson.
