Barbara Barnes of Wollaston, MA passed on at her home on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the age of 89. Born August 7, 1921 in New Haven, CT to Albert L. and Lavonne S. Barnes, she was raised in Wollaston, attended North Quincy High School and graduated from Nasson College in Maine. She resided in Waterbury, CT and was employed by the Watertown Public School Department until her retirement.
Barbara’s retirement years were spent volunteering at the Eventide Home where she served as President of the Eventide Auxiliary. She was affiliated with the Quincy Symphony Orchestra serving as one of the directors. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. And was a loyal member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Quincy. Hobbies included reading fine literature and she was an avid supporter of The Smithsonian Institute.
She was the sister of the late William H. Barnes, who predeceased her in 2004. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Gladys R. Barnes of Braintree; a nephew William H. Barnes, Jr & his wife Cynthia of Marlton, NJ; a nephew Keith R. Barnes & his wife Deborah of Braintree; and a niece Susan J. Shaw & her husband David of Mountain Lakes, NJ. She is also survived by eight great nieces and nephews and one great, great nephew.
