Millard “Sonny” Brown, 80, of Flatonia, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2011. Sonny was born in the Colony area on October 9, 1930, the son of Millard “Buster” Brown and Elsie Brunner Brown. He married Mollie “Etta” Williamson on September 3, 1955.
Sonny served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955 and after some time working in the oil business and owning his own transmission and a/c business in Houston, Sonny and his family returned to the Colony area where he spent the past 30 years as a rancher. Sonny was a member of the Flatonia Methodist Church, Colony Cemetery Association, American Legion, Texas Farm Bureau, Fayette County Sheriff’s Posse, and the E.A. Arnim Archives & Museum. Sonny was also a Korean War Veteran.
Sonny is survived by his wife, Etta; two daughters, Pam Svatek and husband Jerome of Bastrop, Denise Berry and husband Guy of Bastrop; three grandchildren, Jason Svatek and wife Sarah of Cypress, Kevin Svatek of Boston, Mass., and Laura Svatek of Montgomery; two step grandchildren, Guy Berry, Jr. of Fayetteville, NC and SueAnn Berry of Severn, MD; one step great-grandchild, Heidi Berry of Hagerstown, MD; brother Kenny Brown and wife Mickey of Bay City, and sister Verdine Black of Flatonia.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Billy Wayne Brown.
Serving as pall bearers were Donnie Itri, Jimmy DeVoe, Pat Brown, Irving Davis, Dan Bowling, and John J. Beck.
Viewing will begin at 8:00 am Friday, July 22, 2011, and visitation with family and friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Flatonia. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am Saturday, July 23, 2011 at Flatonia United Methodist Church with Rev. Rob Clopton officiating. Burial will follow in the Colony Cemetery.
