Lyle E. Abernethy, Jr. of New Braunfels passed away Friday, July 29, 2011 at the age of 90. He was born October 11, 1920 to Lyle and Leona Abernethy in Detroit Michigan. Mr. Abernethy was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in New Braunfels and was a lay reader for many years. He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion and Rotary Club. He a Chief Petty Officer serving in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean War and served on the USS Tumult a mine sweeper.
He is survived by his sons Denis Abernethy of New Braunfels, Michael Abernethy of New Braunfels; grandchildren, Jason Abernethy of Katy, Texas, Kayla Abernethy of New Braunfels, Ryan Abernethy of New Braunfels and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death was his parents; his wife Elva Abernethy; brothers Stanley Abernethy, Richard Abernethy; sisters Shirley D’Argie, Helen Abernethy.
Visitation will be from 5 pm until 8 pm Monday, August 1, 2011 at Zoeller Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 10:30 am at Zoeller Funeral Home. Cremation will follow at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
