Born and raised Paula Acevedo in Puerto Rico, she moved to Brooklyn in 1946. She settled in Meiers Corners in 1987.
Mrs. Arce took great joy in time spent with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed making clothes for her three daughters and watching soap opers in Spanish.
“She was a simple, quiet person who never had a bad word to say about anyone. She was a wonderful mother who loved taking care of her family,” said her daughter, Martha Lopez.
Mrs. Arce’s husband of 64 years, Louis, died in 2009.
Along with her daughter, Martha, surviving are her son, Joe Louis; her daughters, Carmen Leotta and Leonore Arce; three grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.
The funeral will be tomorrow from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 9:45 a.m. in Holy Family R.C. Church, Westerleigh. Burial will follow in Calverton National Cemetery, Long Island.
