Dorothy was born November 7, 1927, near Pittsburgh, PA and was the daughter of Leona and John Espey of Pittsburgh, PA. She attended Allentown Bible Institute in Allentown, PA where she met her husband, the late Reverend George E. Bowen. They married July 18, 1952 and pastored churches in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and North Carolina. They were married for 52 years.
A homemaker, Dorothy was a loving Christian mother to her children and a wonderful example of generosity. She loved to give to others. Her unique sense of humor and wonderful hospitality were enjoyed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend George Bowen and one grandson, Nathaniel Elliott.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children: Reverend Dorothy Klass and husband Reverend Mark, Darlene Elliott and husband, Reverend Charles, Deborah Bowen, Donna Maner and husband Robert, David Bowen, Diane Simmons and husband State Trooper RT, and Dean Bowen and wife Valerie; grandchildren, Carla Storer and husband Jared, Daniel Elliott, Teresa Garvey and husband Sean, Joseph ,Christy and Jonathan Elliott, Jackson, Savannah and Graham Simmons, Brent , Meghan, Jacob, Caleb and Tillie Bowen, and her great grandchildren: Keke, Kelsie, CJ, Kellin, and Kyleigh Storer.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Thomasville Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and at other times at the home residence. A service celebrating her life will be held at Heath Community Church in Lexington officiated by Reverend Daniel Downing Wednesday, August 31st at 2:00 p.m. followed by interment in Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church Cemetery with Reverend Keith Carroll.
