She was born in Waterford, CT on October 6, 1910 to the late Amos and Frances (Spicer) Main, and graduated from N.F.A. class of 1928. Ethel worked as a bookkeeper throughout her life retiring from Spicer Fuel after reaching her 70’s. She joined the United Methodist Church of Gales Ferry in 1923 at the age of 13 worshipping in, and serving the church as a choir member and financial secretary into her 90’s attending services until she was no longer able to do so. In Sept. 1986, Ethel became one of the first residents at Kings Corner Manor. She enjoyed crosswords, needlework and cared for and nurtured many cats throughout her life.
Ethel is survived by her son; Earl Babcock Jr. and his wife Sharon of N. Stonington, daughter; Grace Espinosa of Quaker Hill, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter; Nancy Waterman, son-in-law; Don Espinosa, sister; Ruth Maynard, brother; Raymond Main, grandchildren; Tanya (Malinowsky) Forster and Jeffrey Babcock.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sept 25th at 2:00pm at the United Methodist Church of Gales Ferry, CT., 10 Chapman Ln., Gales Ferry, CT. with reception following in the Jo Ann Koe Hall at the church. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Fairview Odd Fellows Home for the exceptional care they took of Ethel.
