Robert A. Anderson, V (the fifth), 87, of Springfield, formerly of Oak Brook, IL, passed away at 9:05 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL
He was born September 8, 1923 in Washington, Ark, son of Robert Alexander, IV and Ruth Williams Anderson. He married Shirley J. Logsdon Petru on May 22, 1993.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley of Springfield; two sons, Christopher Anderson of Hopkinton, MA and Robert (Ester) Anderson of Conroe, TX; one daughter, Catherine Szpyrka of Charlotte, NC., and seven grandchildren, Christopher (Jacqueline), Mark, Brian, Norma and Laura Anderson and Catherine and Scott Szpyrka. Also surviving are one step-son, Stanley Marsee of Bloomington and one sister, Ruth Alice Anderson of Farmington, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant son.
He is a United States Coast Guard veteran, having attended the United States Coast Guard Academy during WWII.
Robert attended Syracuse University, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree of Mechanical Engineering and later the University of Chicago, where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.
He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed hunting.
Robert worked in Automotive Engineering Sales, employed at Bendix Westinghouse in Cleveland, OH, later at Vickers in Detroit, MI, then at Hoof Products Company in the Chicago, and retiring from S.A. Gear in Bedford Park, IL.
A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at East Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. East Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
