Yazbik Wade Daw, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend, born May 18, 1929, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on September 10, 2011. Born in Mesa, Arizona, his family moved to El Paso, Texas where he graduated from Austin High School and attended Texas Western College. Yaz was the founder of DAW’S Home Furnishings and Thomasville of El Paso, which evolved from the original S.O.S. TV and Appliance Company. He enthusiastically served the city of El Paso and its surrounding areas for over 61 years. Yaz was involved in many organizations supporting the Catholic Diocese of El Paso where he served on the Catholic Diocese Boards of Education, Finance, Legacy Foundation, Priests Retirement and Migrant & Refugee Councils. He served the University of Texas at El Paso as a participant in the Miner Foundation, the Touchdown Club and several university development campaigns. He was recognized as grandparent of the year by the City of El Paso, a recipient of the Seed Award, given by the Catholic Diocese of El Paso, and was also named a Knight of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem, an honorable global organization of the Catholic Church to help preserve the faith in the Holy Land.
Yaz was preceded in death by his parents, Wade and Emilie Daw, his son, Richard Daw, his daughter, Linda Daw Hudson and his grandson, Matthew Hicks. Yaz was dedicated to God and his family and will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Rosalie Duchay Daw, his son, Wade Daw (Marsha), son-in-law, Terry Hudson, daughter, Laura Daw Boggs (Randy), daughter, Patti Daw Yetter (Paul), son, Mark Daw (Liz), daughter, Mary Daw Quinn (John), son, Greg Daw (Susan) and daughter, Teresa Daw Hicks (Tom). Yaz will also be remembered by his precious legacy of grandchildren: Christian & Jessica Daw, Tim & Andrea Hudson, Ryan & Melanie Hudson Hoover, Jacob, Nicholas, Richard & Robert Boggs, Chris & Lisa Boggs Patton, Chris, Mark, Michael, Joseph, Thomas, Andrew & Daniel Yetter, Bryan, Stephanie, Jason, Vanessa & Patrick Daw, Rich, Clarissa, John Paul & Anthony Quinn, Zach, Cassidy & Hayley Daw, Luke & Camille Hicks and great-grandchildren, Katie & Sammy Hoover. He is survived by his brother, Jimmie Daw (Lois) and his sisters, Essie Ayoub (Joe) & Madeline Jabor (Tony), many nieces and nephews and his long-time friend Monsignor Francis J. Smith. Many other friends, colleagues, and co-workers will also cherish Yaz’s memory.
Visitation will take place at Queen of Peace Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, beginning at 5:30pm, with Rosary following at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley, Santa Teresa, N.M. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Jacob Boggs, Jason Daw, Zach Daw, Luke Hicks, Tim Hudson, Anthony Quinn, John Paul Quinn and Michael Yetter. Honorary pallbearers will be all his other grandsons. The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Muneer Assi, Dr. Edward Assi, Dr. George Halow and all who took care of him from Envision Hospice, Jessica Arenas, Liz Guerrero, Marcos Cardenas, Soledad and Rode Lujan.
