Benny Jack Barney, 73, of Hanestown passed away unexpectedly on October 7, 2011. He is now rejoicing in heaven surrounded by his parents Fred & Celia Barney and his brother Bill in the presence of their Lord and Savior. His immediate survivors are his wife JoAnn Joyce Barney; sons Scott Barney and wife Sally of Advance; Kent Barney and wife Julie of Lewisville; daughters Sherry Brock of Yadkinville; Kandace Westmoreland and husband Tony of Lewisville; brothers Bob Barney and wife Maxine; Jerry Barney and wife Karen; sisters Betty Burke and husband Bud; Manchel Tesh and husband Bob; Brenda Swain; and 9 grandchildren. He graduated from Southwest High School in 1957 where he enjoyed sports especially football under Coach Joe “Pop”, and he maintained a relationship with his teammates through their yearly visits to Coach Joe “Pop”. In his earlier years in Hanestown, he enjoyed drag racing at Reedy Creek winning over 100 trophies with his 56 chevrolet the “White Elephant”. Later in life, he enjoyed trips to the mountains visiting his brother-in-law Maynard Joyce. He also attended Calvary Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband, father, and cherished his many grandchildren. He will be missed by his family and friends. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Frank Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel with interment to follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. Friends may visit one hour prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association.
