Herbert H. Amrine passed away peacefully at the age of 82 surrounded by his family the evening of October 11th.
Herb was born November 9th, 1928, to Joseph and Hazel Amrine in Mt. Dora, New Mexico. In 1937 the family moved to Onalaska, WA where Herb graduated from Onalaska High School. While in school he played football, basketball and baseball. He also played the tuba in the high school band.
After graduating from high school, Herb went to work for Darigold. In 1950 he joined the United States Army where he served for two years and was honorably discharged as a private first class.
Herb was employed for thirty-five years in the timber industry, twenty-five of which were spent driving log truck for Fred B. Moe Logging.
In June of 1955 Herb was married to Joanne Nisbet. They were married for fifty-six years and lived their entire married life in the same house where they raised their two children, Lee and Scott.
Herb retired in 1990 and spent his time enjoying his family, gardening and his lifelong passion of playing the guitar. Herb enjoyed playing with a variety of groups at various senior centers, granges and community centers.
Herb is survived by his wife, Joanne, daughter Lee (Stan) Giske, son Scott (Cheryl) Amrine, all of Chehalis, five grandchildren, Jolynn (Ben) Amrine Goertz of Tuscaloosa, AL, Jordan Giske of Centralia, Taylor Giske of Chehalis, Kate Amrine and Luke Amrine, both of Chehalis, sister-in-law Jeanette Amrine of Toledo, as well as numerous special nieces and nephews.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents and his seven siblings: Rella, Josie, Frank, Mary, Kenneth, Jim and Doris.
A memorial is planned for Saturday, October 29th, beginning at 11 AM at the V.R. Lee Community Building located at Recreation Park in Chehalis.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Greater Chehalis Food Bank , P.O. Box 1311, Chehalis, WA 98532.
