Ellie Mae Black, the only daughter of Albert and Helen Dietz, passed away Wednesday, October 12th at the age of 84. She grew up in Fredericksburg, Texas and graduated from Fredericksburg High School. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who had a love for the outdoors, gardening and family. Newly widowed with six young children, Ellie began her nursing career. She went on to receive her LVN certificate from Hendrick School of Nursing. She dedicated over 30 years of her life to nursing with 20 of those years at Hendrick Memorial Hospital. She was blessed during those years to be able to assist in delivering all but two of her grandchildren. Ellie was a former board member of the LVN Association of Texas and a Methodist. She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Earl Pehl and Howard F. Black and son, Larry E. Pehl. Survivors include one son, John Earl Pehl, Jr. of Abilene; four daughters, Madge Watkins of Alto, Susan Pehl of Abilene, Peggy Ford of Granite Shoals and Mary Decker of Abilene; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm Friday, October 14th at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South. Graveside services will be held at 11am Saturday, October 15th at Elmwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to leave online condolences at www.elliott-hamil.com. Mom will always be loved and never forgotten.
