Francisca Alvarez, 92, of northeast Kansas City died on Friday, October 21, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 28, 2011 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 318 Benton Boulevard, Kansas City, MO. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, KS. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the McGilley Midtown Chapel, where the rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. by the Guadalupana Society.
Francisca was born on March 5, 1919 in El Sabino, Guanajuato, Mexico to Julio Saavedra and Irene Barbosa. The oldest of four sisters, she was preceded in death by Maria Tapia, Juana Saavedra and Reyna Saavedra, in addition to her parents. She was married to Jose Maria Alvarez, who also preceded her in death. They had no children, but took guardianship of nephew, Miguel Tapia, for five years and niece, Maria Jimenez, for over thirty years. She was a seamstress for United Upholsterers and was a member of the Guadalupana Society. Her survivors include her cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews as well as great- great-nieces and nephews.
