Mrs. Sybil Jordan Abernathy, 72 of 350 Kings Terrace Salisbury went home to be with her Lord on Sunday October 30, 2011 at Rowan Regional Medical Center. Born on November 29, 1938 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Everette and Dixie Wilhelm Jordan. She was a 1957 graduate of China Grove High School and Evans Business College. Mrs. Abernathy was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Salisbury, where she was a Sunday School teacher, served on the Board of Trustees and was the church clerk. She also was involved in the Christian Women Club. Her career was with First Union Bank where she was Senior Vice President / bank manager at the Rockwell location. Her hobbies were traveling, reading and the companionship of her dog.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Jordan in 1980. Those left to cherish her memories is her husband of 53 years, William Clinton Abernathy, daughter Suzan A. Lambert and husband Rick of Salisbury, grandchildren, Jessica S. Bostian and husband Jeremy and Nicholas A. Stamey both of Salisbury and great grandchild Zoe Camille Bostian.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6:00 til 8:00 at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove with service on Wednesday at 2:00 at First Baptist Church in Salisbury, with Rev. Kenneth Lance, minister. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
