Hoit Campbell passed away on Monday, November 7, 2011. Hoit was born in Topeka, Kansas, on July 12, 1929 to Stuart and Imogene Hoit Campbell Ramsey. A longtime resident of the Kansas City area, he attended Bryant School and Southwest High School. He graduated from Wentworth Military Academy in 1946 and Northwestern University in 1950. He served in the United States Air Force from 1950 through 1953. Hoit spent his business life in Real Estate. He was President of Campbell- Leonard Realtors, Johnson County Realtors Board President, 1970, Metropolitan Realtors President, 1970, and Realtor of the Year, 1971. Hoit was Chairman of the Building Committee and was on the Committee that began the Multiple Listing Service of Johnson County. Hoit supported and enjoyed the visual and performing arts. He served five years on the Board of the Youth Symphony Orchestra and accompanied them on a trip to Washington and Philadelphia for the Bi-Centennial National Celebration in 1976. He also served on the Board of the Kansas City Camarata Orchestra and more recently on the Board of the Unicorn Theatre. Hoit was a past member of Indian Hills Country Club and the Kansas City Club. He leaves his beloved wife, Valerie Freed, his children, Catherine Puls, and her husband Ron, of Olathe, Jeffery Campbell, of Santa Rosa, California, Christopher Campbell and his wife Jill, of Leawood. He also leaves his stepchildren, Randy Freed and his wife Dini, of Overland Park, and Julie Freed, of Ashland, Oregon and Linda Brown and Karen Laner of Chicago. Grandchildren include: Lauren Mulvenon, Ryan Campbell, Arianna Marshank, Evie Freed and Sterling, Gideon, Katherine and Claire Campbell. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art or the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. A memorial service will be held at the Unity Temple on the Plaza at 2 p.m., on Thursday, November 10, 2011.
