Kenneth R. Gerrish, "Ken," age 78, of Somerset, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2011 in Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Beatrice M. (Parent) Gerrish to whom he has been married for the past 24 years.
Born in Brunswick, Maine, a son of the late Clarence Gerrish and Mary L. (Labbe) Lamont, he lived in Brockton, South Easton, and Norton before moving to Somerset five years ago.
A Veteran of the United States Army, he served as Corporal, and was a recipient of the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, a United Nations Medal, and a National Defense Service Medal, during the Korean War. He was a Mechanic and owned and operated gas stations in the Brockton area. He was Head of Security for the Foxboro Company in East Bridgewater for many years before retiring in 1992.
He enjoyed cooking, golfing, singing, and most of all spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife he is survived by five children; Sandra Robitaille and her husband Raymond of Skowhegan, ME, Bryan O' Brien of Myrtle Beach, SC, Kathleen Fedele and her husband Ronald of East Bridgewater, MA, Donald Yarletts Jr. of Brockton, MA and Toni-Jean Gadry and her husband Roger of Swansea, four siblings; Mary Morang of Brunswick, ME, Roger Gerrish Col. US Air Force Ret. and his wife Joan of Austin, TX, Corrine Minor and her husband John of Sacramento, CA, and Clarence Gerrish Jr. of DE. He had fifteen grandchildren, Alan, John, Jeremy, Amber, Joshua, Shawn, Rebekah, Brandy, Ashley-Jean, Micheal, James, Lindsey, Kasey, Jason, and Jonathan; as well as eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
His Memorial service will be held December 5, 2011 from 11:00AM to 1:00PM in the Congregational Christian Church of Somerset United Church of Christ 1411 County Street, Somerset Massachusetts 02726. Please join us
