Don L. Anders, 63, of Bonner Springs, Kansas passed away Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 8th at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street in Kansas City, Kansas. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests that any contributions be made to Kansas City Hospice House.
Don was born September 22, 1948 in Kansas City, Kansas to Alvin and Vina (Rischer) Anders, and he was a lifelong resident. He was an Air Force Veteran of Vietnam, and he worked for over 30 years for the General Motors Fairfax Plant, where he retired as an Equipment Operator in 2001. Don was a member of the United Auto Workers Union, The Animal Crackers Club, and the Lenexa Christian Center. He enjoyed building model cars, yard working, farming, International Harvester Tractors, all types of cars, and he loved caring for his pet birds. He also loved working with his hands. Don even invented and built a trailer that can be pulled behind a handicapped scooter.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his only brother, Joel Anders when he passed away in 1968, and his first wife, Linda Anders when she passed away in 1995.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Anders of the home; two step-sons, Manuel Hanson of Tulsa, OK, and Robert Hanson and his wife Jansen of Denison, TX; and seven grandchildren, Ryan Hanson, John Hanson, Brandon Hanson, Erin Hanson, Lyrik Hanson, Mattix Hanson, and Cylas Hanson.
