Stubby was born on January 30, 1929 in Milford, the son of the late Earl F. and Nellie (Hillsinger) Carr, Sr. He married Mary Countryman on February 2, 1957.
For most of his life, Earl was a farmer, and was considered an expert in that field. For a period of time he was a guard at the Army Depot in Schenectady. He served his country in the US Army.
Stubby enjoyed sports and was an avid Yankee and Syracuse basketball fan. In his younger years he played for the Milford Macs. He also enjoyed bowling at the Milford Lanes and playing Town Team Basketball.
Stubby was always fun loving, and ready with a joke or a prank.
Stubby is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary L. Carr of Cooperstown; his children, Roger A. Carr of Cooperstown, Maria L. Carr of Portlandville and Diane Hasenkamp of Milford.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jeffrey and Matthew Brandow, Chad and Casey Carr; his great grandchildren, Brody and Zachary Brandow; his siblings, Robert and Peggy Carr of Hiawatha, Georgia, Betty Dibble of Harpersfield, Doris Birkett of Winterhaven, Florida and Florence and BobFolensbee of Unadilla and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister Frances D’Arcangelis and his brother, Richard Carr.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta with Rev. David Rockwell, officiating. Interment will follow in the Milford Cemetery, Milford, NY.
Friends may call on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home at which time the family will be in attendance.
