Herschel was born November 6, 1922 to Helen Beatrice (Bell) and William Frank Giese. He married Zella June Musgrave on March 1, 1946 in Henderson, KY. Herschel was a Corporal in the US Air Force during WWII, from 1943-1945.
He was an oilfield driller, retired from AMF and also from the US Postal Service, as a rural mail carrier. He was a lifetime Cub Fan, since 1945, and has the card to prove it. He was also a lifetime member of the Edwards County VFW,
Post 8222, and a member of the Olney American Legion, and also enjoyed being with fellow Veterans from the West Salem area.
Herschel was preceded in death by his parents, wife, June, one daughter: Darla Akins, and one son: William Lee “Stick” Giese, one brother: Richard Giese, and a sister: June Gaede.
Herschel leaves to mourn his passing, and celebrate his life, Children: Brenda (Gilbert) Barnhart of West Salem, IL, Sandy Halterman of Olney, IL, Marsha (Dean) Wiseman of Browns, IL, Teresa (Mark) Schnautz of Olney, IL, Steve (Rita) Giese of West Salem, IL, and John (Alicia) Giese of Lafayette, IN. He is also survived by 14 Grandchildren,
14 Great-grandchildren and 2 Great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Herschel Giese will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2011 from 5 to 7 PM at Ingram Funeral Home, West Salem, IL.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 10AM at Ingram Funeral Home, West Salem, IL. Burial will follow in the Moravian Cemetery with full military rites.Pallbearers: John Giese, Steve Giese, Mark Schnautz, Eric Wiseman, Chad Wiseman, Joe Taylor, Jared Giese, Ryker Elliot-Barnhart. Honorary Pallbearers: Dean Wiseman, Gilbert Barnhart, George Knackmus, Tom Moore, Delbert Seals, Ted McKinney.
