Wolf, May 5, 1939 in Van Buren, AR.
He joined the 92nd Spec. Inf. Co. of Fort Smith, a branch of the USMCR , having to change his birthday and his name since he was only 16 at the time. He ended up transferring to the USAF where he eventually retired. He was awarded the Meritorious Service medal for his work with the Det#1 European Liaison office in Frankfurt, Germany. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal twice, as well as other medals. Also awarded the Badge of Honor from the Chinese Government of Taiwan. He traveled with the Presidential Assistance Staff which provided the office of the United States President secure communications and was assigned to assist the Joint Chiefs of Staff on their trips to Ramey AFB, Puerto Rico. He was a TKO/SPO operator, one of a few with access to Presidential briefings. He retired from the United States Air Force after more than 20 years of service.
Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Oleta of the home, his children, Lena R. Pollack of Plantation, Florida; Joe W. Carter of Fort Smith; Eva M. Smith of Ardmore, OK; Tina K. Johns of Luraville, Florida; Dina L. Billy of Lee, Florida; Chris A. Carter of Spiro, OK; Billy Joe Carter of Spiro, OK; Millie Tarnawski of Leavenworth, Kansas and Oleta Irene Allen of Grand Junction, Colorado. 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gary D. Jordan; 3 sisters, Flora Patterson, Betty Dilbeck and Nell Underwood and 2 brothers, Horton ans Hildon Carter.
A visitation is scheduled from 4:00pm to 6:00pm Sunday, December 18 at Edwards Funeral Home, 201 N. 12th Fort Smith. Funeral services will held 1:00pm Monday, December 19 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel . Burial will be at Gilliam Cemetery, near Witcherville with full military honors provided by the United States Air Force.
