Our beloved mother, Maria Lilia Sandoval Acevedo, passed away the evening of December 22, 2011 while surrounded by family. She was born on September 12, 1925 to Dolores and Antonio Sandoval in Anthony, New Mexico. As part of a migrant family, she was raised in the United States and in Chihuahua, Mexico. It was there that she met and married Jose Refugio Acevedo, and together they raised five children. In 1954, they settled in El Paso where she devoted her life to the welfare and education of her children. Her approach to life, embodied in her saying, "Querer es poder" (Where's there's a will, there's a way), gave power to many of our undertakings. We will miss her strong sense of integrity, her courage, and her love for each of us, but we are proud that her legacy lives on through us.
She leaves behind two daughters and three sons, along with nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. They are: Lily A. Rebeles (Arturo) and daughters Sonia, Anita, and Olivia Rebeles; Martha I. Guerra and sons Sergio and Arturo Guerra; Oscar L. Acevedo (Kathleen) and children Elena Dalcourt and Joseph Acevedo; Jesus A. Acevedo (Gloria) and children Maria Lilia and Isabel Acevedo; and Carlos Acevedo.
The Acevedo family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Martin East.
