Ernest L. Brown Sr., born on May 24, 1922, a long time resident and entrepreneur of Chattanooga,went home to be with the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, January 21, 2012, surrounded by family. He was born in Monterey, TN, moved to several towns, but spent his high school years in Spring City, TN. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942, and stayed until 1945. He was a Corporal in the Medical Corps that was attached to the 405th Engineer Battalion. He had various jobs in Chattanooga until 1955 when he began Brown's Warehouse, a wholesale furniture distributor. This business grew with help of Eddie Brannon and was a success and expanded to multiple locations and included retail furniture sales. He retired in 1992 at the age of 70. He served many years as a deacon at First Baptist Church Golden Gateway. He enjoyed golf and was a long time member of Valleybrook Gold and Country Club.
Preceded in death by his sister Ruth Proffitt, and parents Walter A. and Hattie Brown.
Survived by loving wife of 65 years, Norma Pedigo Brown, son, Ernie Brown (Lynda), and sister Bettye Buffington, 3 Grandchildren, and 8 Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 2 PM at the Chattanooga Funeral Home East Brainerd Chapel. Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, Jan. 23, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.
