She was born in Keene, NH, January 20, 1923, the daughter of Victor and Lillian M. (Pregent) Amlaw.
She grew up in Keene, moving to Alstead, NH in 1957 where she resided for many years before moving to Charlestown 10 years ago.
Mrs. Burroughs worked for many years as a cook with Headstart of Keene. She was a member of the Charlestown VFW Post 8497 and a member of the Charlestown Senior Center. She enjoyed volunteering at events sponsored by the VFW and the Senior Center. She especially enjoyed peeling numerous pounds of onions for the turkey dinners held by the Senior Center and baking beans for the VFW bingo games. She was an avid bingo player. Mrs. Burroughs was a longtime member of the Third Congregational Church of Alstead.
Survivors included her daughter, Linda P. Wilbur and her husband, Howard, of Surry, NH, a son, Victor R. Burroughs of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, five grandchildren, Susan Leach and her husband, Bruce, of Chateauguay, New York, Johnathan Miller and his wife, Karole, of Battleboro, NC, David Miller of Nelson, NH, Patti Burroughs of Egg Harbor Township, William Falkinburg of Beuna, NJ, 3 great-grandchildren, Lynn Marie Leach of Elmira, NY, Benjamin Leach of Chateauguay, William Falkinburg, Jr. of Beuna, and several nieces and nephews. Her husband of 59 years, Robert E. Burroughs, died in 1989. A sister, Pauline David, died earlier.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Alstead West Cemetery, Route 123, Alstead. Rev. Richard Wallace will officiate. Family and friends are invited. Family and friends are also invited to call on Saturday from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH.
