Margaret was born in Hastings, Nebraska and moved to Houston with her family when she was a young girl of six. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School. She married Bennett A. (Benny) Brown III (and had 4 boys, Bennett A. (Ben) Brown IV, Charles Kimball (Kim) Brown, Kirby L. Brown, and David Keith Brown. She lived almost all of her adult life in Houston. Margaret was a great mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She served as church secretary for St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Garden Villas, secretary to chaplains at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, and secretary to the Harris County Probate Courts. Her favorite pastime was reading, but she also loved to play bridge, grow African violets and roses, and enjoyed the use of bold color to brighten her surroundings.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband Benny, her mother Viola and father James R. McCreary, and brothers Willis, Jack, and Kim McCreary.
She is survived by her sister Jeanette Moyer of Hemphill, TX, brother James McCreary of Baytown, her son Ben Brown and his wife Crystal of Animas, NM, granddaughter Margaret and husband Jeff Lentz of Lytle, TX and great-grandchildren Sean, Mark, Eric and Camryn, granddaughter Donelle Harris of Lytle, TX and great-grandchildren Jace and Jocelyn, son Kim Brown and his wife Mary of Somerville, TX, granddaughter Stacey Kitzmann of Bryan, TX and great grandchildren Camden, Patrick and Savannah, son Kirby Brown and his wife Suzanne of San Marcos TX, and grandson Lane Brown and his wife Marcella of Austin, TX, and great grandson Brady, and son Keith Brown and wife Ellen of Houston, TX, and granddaughters, Katherine and Caroline.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, February 17, 2012 at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas 77023.
