Dr. Broussard was born on September 16, 1934, in Maurice, Louisiana. He graduated from Maurice High School and later graduated from Southwest Louisiana Institute (now ULL). He attended medical school at LSU New Orleans and did his internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed his residency at Lafayette Charity Hospital. He then served his country in the U.S. Army Medical Corps at Ireland Army Hospital in Fort Knox, Kentucky before moving to Welsh.
He began his medical practice on January 29, 1964, and served Welsh and the surrounding communities for 39 years before retiring on December 31, 2002. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church.
Dr. Broussard loved spending time at his farm in Ardoin Cove, doing crossword puzzles, collecting coins, reading, walking with his dog, and nurturing his fruit trees. He got great joy from his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vera Devillier Broussard, and four daughters: Annette Troutman and her husband, David; Zonnie Dietrich and her husband, Ken; Emily Gay and her husband, John; and Amy Stanford. Dr. Broussard also leaves behind to cherish his memory thirteen grandchildren: Eric Troutman, Leann Troutman Guinn, Regan Troutman, Madison Troutman, Jon Dietrich, David Dietrich, Emily Dietrich Stevens, Joey Broussard, Sara Gay, Amy Gay, Elise Stanford, Drew Stanford, and Peyton Stanford, as well as thirteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters and a brother.
He was welcomed into heaven by his parents, Aristile Broussard and Lydia Hebert Broussard.
Visitation will be held at Hixson Funeral Home in Welsh, Louisiana on Saturday, February 18, 2012, from 4pm-9pm and will continue on Sunday, February 19, 2012 from 9am-9pm with a scripture reading at 6pm and a rosary recited at 6:30pm. Visitation will resume on Monday, February 20, 2012 at 9am until the time of his funeral mass at 2:00pm at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church.
