Arthur Dale Sharp, age 84, of Massillon, OH died on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Aultman hospital following a fall at home. During the week prior to his death, he was treated with the utmost respect and dignity by all who attended to his needs. His family will forever remember the kindness and tender care shown to Art and family members during this difficult time.
Art was the son of the late Thomas and Lillian Sharp, Sherrodsville, OH born on July 6, 1927. He served in the USA Army and received and Honorable discharge in 1946. He was retired from the Timken Roller Bearing Company, Canton, OH. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Rebecca Jane Sharp (Swinehart), 2006; Brother and Sister-in-law, Robert and Marylou Sharp; and Sister-in-law, MaryAnn Sharp.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth (Suzzi) Sharp, Ontario, CA; Brother, James Sharp, North Carolina; and sister, Betty Maple of California; Son, Eric Sharp , Massillon, OH; Step-daughter, Pam Takacs of Aurora, CO; Step-daughter and Son-in Law, Cindy (John) Ionno, Canton, OH; five grandchildren, Bryan (Nikki) Takacs of Aurora, CO, Josh (Amber) Takacs of Aurora, CO., Tony Ionno of Daytona Beach, FL., Jason (Deonna Frye) Ionno, Ormond Beach, Fl., Amy (Andrew) Carper, North Canton, OH; nine great-grandchildren, Max, Isla, Gavin, Madeline, Tara, Ethan, Gavin, Liam, and Little Zoey; numerous nieces and nephews who adored him.
He was a member of the Magnolia United Methodist Church in Magnolia, Ohio, and served on the Sandy Valley School Board. Art was a kind, gentle man who loved chatting with friends, fishing, playing board games with his family on Sunday afternoons, and playing cards with other seniors. He was always willing to help others wherever he saw a need.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2012 in the Karlo-Libby Funeral Home, 5000 Everhard Road NW, Canton with Pastor Steven Smith officiating. Interment will be in Greentown Cemetery, Greentown, OH.
Family and friends may call two-hours prior to services on Monday at the funeral home.
