NEW IBERIA - Services for Sue Blair, the former Sue Evalyn Mitchell, 87, will be conducted at 10:00 am Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at St. Peters Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Langlois officiating. Interment will follow in the St Peters Cemetery in New Iberia. Visiting hours will be observed at Evangeline Funeral Home on Monday from 4:30 pm until 7:00 pm, with the Rosary at 6:30 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Tuesday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am.
Mrs. Blair was born in Tylertown, Miss, on September 15, 1924, the oldest of five girls. The family moved to New Orleans where she attended Soule Business College and later Delta Ship yard Welding School. While working at the Delta Shipyard, she met and married her beloved husband, Marion John Blair, who was a welder at the time. They moved to New Iberia to raise a family of five children. Mrs. Blair volunteered as a Pink Lady at Iberia Medical Center in 1988 with 24 years of service. She loved cooking, sewing, reading, and horticulture. She was a resident of New Iberia for 69 years.
Mrs. Blair passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2012. Sue M. Blair was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She lived life to the fullest giving herself to everyone with love and joy. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by three daughters, Marianne Blair of Pearl, Ms., April B. Carlson and husband Bruce of Bar Harbor, Maine/Lafayette, LA, Nancy B. Vial and husband Robert G. of Sandia, TX; one son Marion J. Blair Jr. and wife Delores of Lafayette, LA; 10 grandchildren, John “Sonny” Blair of Bar Harbor, ME, Michael K. Pawlik of Madison, MS, Deborah Pawlik Hanson of Missoula, MT, Jeffrey Pawlik of Seattle, WA, Suzanne Pawlik Colbert of Madison, MS, Keith E. Blair of Lafayette, LA, Kay Bienvenu of Lafayette, LA, Christopher Biggerstaff of Lafayette, LA, Ronald Vial of Montalba, TX, Robert W. Vial of Canyon Lake, TX; and 22 great grandchildren, Emily Neader, George Hanson, Henry Hanson, Hayden Hunter, Joseph Pawlik, Benjamin Pawlik, Daniel Pawlik, Evan Bienvenu, Ethan Bienvenu, Anna Claire Biggerstaff, Campbell Biggerstaff, Julia Biggerstaff, Elizabeth Leger, Michael Leger, Brian Leger, Kaitlyn Vial, Kara Vial, Makinze Vial, Aiden Vial, Chesca Vial, Dylan Smothers, Jake Vial. Mrs. Blair is also survived by two sisters, Vera Mitchell Fourroux and Janie Mitchell Rowley both of New Orleans.
Mrs. Blair was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Marion John Blair; her parents Landon Curtis and Eva Rose Reeves Mitchell; one son, Keith Edward Blair; and two sisters, Gwen Mitchell Phillips of New Orleans and Billie Jo M. Strickland of Mobile, Alabama.
Pallbearers will be Robert W. Vial, John “Sonny” Blair, Chris Biggerstaff, Keith Blair, Emil Pawlik, Michael Pawlik, Steven Bienvenu, and Bruce Carlson.
