Elsie was born on February 20, 1913 in Sweden, the daughter of the late Axel and Alma (Karlson) Swenson. She married Lawrence James Davidson on June 30, 1940. He predeceased her on August 23, 1989.
Our Mom was a graduate of Oneonta Normal School. a teacher at the A.L. Kellogg Central School in Treadwell. She was an active farmer’s wife, milking cows morning and night. She loved this life.
Our Mom was a moving force at the Treadwell Methodist Church. Her efforts taught hundreds of children to know Jesus. Her work took many children to Vacation Bible School, release time and summer camp. As choir director for many years, the church presented many Christmas and Easter Cantatas. The famous “Garage Sale” netted hundreds of dollars to the United Methodist Women.
Elsie is survived by her children, Joan Crunden (Doug Wilmont) of Caledonia, NY and John Davidson and (Carol Sabatini) of Delhi; her beloved nephew George Thompson (Barb) of Franklin; her grandchildren, Jacqueline Goodnough (Erich), Jim Crunden (Sidra), Chris Crunden (Gabi) and Jennifer Mitchell (Hugh); her great grandchildren, Emily Mitchell, Claire Crunden, Alicia and Katie Najor and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her sister, Elizabeth Hernstrom and her brothers, Carl and Fred Swenson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Treadwell United Methodist Church, with Rev. John Hill and Rev. Elliot Oakes, officiating. Interment will follow in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.
Friends may call on Monday, April 2, 2012 from 5 to 7 pm at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, 425 Main Street, Franklin.
We would like to thank Robynwood and especially Countryside Care Center for the loving care they extended to Mom.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Treadwell United Methodist Church and the Treadwell Fire Department.
