Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2012 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3719 Pinetop Rd. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Wilkins was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served two tours during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion, a Shriner and a 32nd degree Mason. After the war, Mr. Wilkins returned to Greensboro and spent 10 years working for the Guilford County Sherriff’s office. He then became self employed as a contractor for aviation mechanics. He enjoyed flying, teaching flight and set up maintenance programs for universities and the U.S. government to comply with FAA rules and regulations. Mr. Wilkins was very active in the Boy Scouts and served as a leader with troops in Greensboro, Pensacola, FL and Kwajalein in the South Pacific. He will always be remembered as being a generous gentleman who enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. Mr. Wilkins was preceded in death by his parents, Richard E. Wilkins and Columbia Gaither Kerans.
Mr. Wilkins is survived by his sister, Diana Tilley of Randleman, brothers, Bill Wilkins and wife, Betty of Inman, SC, Mickey Kerans and wife, Betty of Summerfield, and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friday at the church.
