Virginia L. Marinaro Abbott was born on December 24, 1923, in Butler, PA, and died in Fresno on April 28, 2012. She was the tenth of 11 children, born to Filomena Capriola Marinaro and Nicholas Marinaro.
Virginia and family moved to Fresno in 1936 to join other Italian relatives. She attended school at St. John's and graduated from Edison High School in 1942. Upon graduating from Edison, Virginia had several jobs: she worked for the USO, Roar Aircraft, Senator Hugh Burns, and the Fresno Unified School District. She met and married Harry E. Abbott (deceased) and had three children.
Virginia was very active in volunteer organizations, including St. Anthony's Mother's Guild, other church related and Republican activities.
Virginia's best trait was the love for her children and family. She loved to cook, especially Italian food and she was best known for her Christmas Eve parties. Her well-organized home was open to anyone who stopped by for a visit and she seemed to always have an extra place setting at the table.
Preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers; six sisters; and an infant daughter.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Susan Lorena; and son, John Michael. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and good friends.
Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home, Tuesday, May 8, 2012, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Wednesday May 9, 2012, with interment to follow at Clovis Cemetery.
The family has requested that all remembrances be made to the California Ar- menian Home; Nancy Hinds Hospice; or the donor's favorite charity.
