Mrs. Fernandes was a lifelong New Bedford resident. She was the daughter of the late Evariste and Leda (LeBlanc) Girouard.
Lorraine was a graduate of New Bedford High School and the Chicago Institute of Interior Decorating. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Painting, gardening and interior design were her favorite hobbies. She was a homemaker and former owner of Maid's of Massachusetts. She also worked in sales outside the home and was a past member of the Lions Club.
Survivors in addition to her husband are her three sons, Brian Fernandes and his wife Randie of Dartmouth, Gregg Fernandes of Medfield, Bruce Fernandes of Lake Worth, FL; three sisters, Yvette Bralewski of Georgia, Terry Pelletier and Irene Bielski of New Bedford; two brothers, Normand Girouard of New Bedford and Ernest Girouard of Freetown, four grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Herve Girouard, Oscar Girouard and Doris Lavoie.
Her Funeral mass will be celebrated at 9 am on Friday, May 25, 2012 at St Mary Church 343 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford. Visiting hours at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8pm. Burial will be private.
