1925 - 2012
Mary Flo Andrews died peacefully in her sleep June 7, 2012, at age 86, surrounded by people who loved her. Born in Amarillo, Texas, on October 4, 1925, Mary Flo lived in Amarillo until marrying then LCDR Thomas L. Andrews, Jr. in February 1946. For the next 30 years, she joined Tom on a wonderful journey around the world, living in places and doing things that one could only dream of as a child and one could only experience as the wife of a Naval Aviator. She followed that whirlwind by settling in Lake Charlene in Pensacola, where she once again set down roots and immersed herself into the community. Wherever Mary Flo went, it was like she belonged there, making life-long friends and wonderful memories along the way. Whether it was serving as the President of the Navy Officers Wives Club or Docent at the Pensacola Museum of Art or Red Cross Volunteer at the Pensacola Navy Hospital Surgery Clinic, Mary Flo threw her entire being into the venture, giving her all and always leaving things better than when she arrived. She felt just as comfortable hosting four-star Generals at their Hail and Farewells as she did selling trinkets at the Navy Officers Wives Thrift Shop, because she loved everything that she did, fully embracing the joy of life. She had a smile that could light up a room and loved everyone and everything she touched. Even until the day of her death, she put a positive spin on everything – answering the question, “How are you doing?” with the answer, “I’m in pretty good shape for the shape I’m in!” She leaves the Earth a lesser place for her departure, but rejoices in being back with her husband of 65 years. Mary Flo is survived by her daughter, Patricia Dale Franklin, her son-in-law COL Chris Franklin, USMC (Ret), both of Victoria, Texas, her son, RADM Thomas L. Andrews, III, SC, USN (Ret), and her daughter-in-law, Lillian Etcheverry, both of San Rafael, California.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 am, Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Pleitz Chapel, First Baptist Church of Pensacola with Reverend Don Minton officiating.
Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the funeral home.
