Thelma C. Briggs “Sally”, 80 died June 11, 2012. She was born and raised in New Zealand and completed her training as a nurse there before meeting her future husband Ronald in 1955. He was serving in the U.S. Navy in New Zealand and deployed shortly after their meeting, delaying their eventual marriage. She described the first 10 years as a “10 year honeymoon.” They resided in many places including Washington state, Scotland, where she began to raise her family, and later in Connecticut, Massachusetts and California. In 1982 she and Ronald retired to Cape Cod. Once married, Sally spent much of her life at home raising her family. She was passionate about many things including, knitting, sewing, reading, rescuing cats, the New England Patriots, Boston Bruins, yoga, Jeopardy, bowling and her addiction to QVC.
She was predeceased by her husband Ronald in 1984. Her daughters, Jennifer Briggs of Cotuit and Stephanie Briggs of Nantucket both survive her. She also leaves her grand dog, Ronnie and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 11am – 12pm on Friday June 15, 2012 at the Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St. Hyannis, MA 02601. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 12pm on Friday. Interment will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sally’s memory may be made to the Cape Cod Animal Care and Adoption Center, 1577 Falmouth Rd. Centerville, 02632.
