Lois Mae Starnes was born in Portland, Oregon on May 24, 1928. Raised by Leslie and Alice (Hallett) Starnes, Lois had one sister, Iris. Lois was raised in the St. Johns area of North Portland and graduated in 1946 from Roosevelt High School.
Lois exchanged wedding vows with James Moore in Portland, Oregon, on October 27th, 1946. They had six sons – Michael, Harold, Thomas, David, Ernest, and Brian; and one daughter, Carol Ann. Carol Ann passed away at a very young age in 1952. The family relocated to West Portland and all six boys grew up in the Bonny Slope area. They attended Bonny Slope Grade School, Cedar Park Junior High, and Sunset High School. Lois was a very supportive and devoted mother to her six sons. She served as a den mother for Cub Scouts and was involved in her son’s lives and activities as they grew. They went on many camping trips, fishing trips to the coast, and enjoyed traveling as a family. As each child was born, the family would travel to James’ home in Tennessee to introduce the newest member of the family.
Lois’ primary occupation was as a wife, mother, and homemaker, but she also put on Tupperware events and also served a sales representative for Tri-Chem Liquid Embroidery. She was a devoted member of Bethany Baptist Church and she sang in the choir. Lois enjoyed quilting, knitting, canning, visiting garage sales, and she liked to collect antiques, especially pink depression-era glass.
James passed away in 1984. Lois moved to Boring, Oregon in the mid 1980s. She married Ralph Hyder in 1986. They later separated. She married Norman Stevens in 1995. They lived together in SE Portland until Norman’s death in 2003. In 2004, Lois moved to Woodburn, Oregon to live with her son, David. She remained in Woodburn until she was called home on June 12th.
Lois is survived by her loving sons - Michael of Portland, OR, Harold of Woodburn, OR, Thomas of Aloha, OR, David and Ernest, both also of Woodburn, OR, and Brian, also of Portland. She is also survived by a sister, Iris Cochran, 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will take place in Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, June 23rd, 2012, at 1pm.
Lois will be privately laid to rest in Skyline Memorial Gardens, garden of the Last Supper.

Safely Home
I am home in heaven, dear ones,
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
in this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over,
every restless tossing passed.
I am now at peace forever,
safely home in heaven at last.
There is still work waiting for you,
so you must not idly stand.
Do it now, while life remaineth,
you shall rest in God’s own land.
When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you home.
Ah, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!
