Ronald E. Andersen, 78, of Glendale, Arizona, passed away on June 18, 2012, at the John C. Lincoln, North Mountain Hospital Phoenix, Arizona: This was following a lengthy battle with problems caused by Prostate Cancer. He was born February 3, 1934 in LeMars, Iowa, the son of Ole and Charlotte Andersen. He was raised and educated in the LeMars area, and graduated from LeMars High School in 1953. He joined the U.S. Navy and served his country as a Machinist Mate 3rd Class on the U.S.S. KIDD, from October 1953 to December 1957. In 1958, Ron Andersen was united in marriage with Geraldine Penning. Their journey together moved to Pickstown, S.D in 1960 when Ron attained a government job with the Corps of Engineers. His career was with the Federal Government helping to develop the Electrical Power Distribution System. Climbing the career ladder involved moving to many different states. In 1995 Ron retired from the Department of Energy, Western Area Power Administration as the Chief of the Power Supply System Dispatchers. Ron enjoyed many years of golfing with family and friends after retirement.
Survivors include his four children, 2 sons and 2 daughters: Randall and his wife Cheryl of Las Vegas, NV, Rodney and his wife Lorna of Phoenix, AZ, Robbin McGarvy of Pueblo, CO, and Ramona Andersen of Glendale, AZ; his 5 grandchildren: Corrine and her husband Chris Reinhardt, Catherine and her husband Russ Trujillo, Charles McGarvy, Colton McGarvy, all of Pueblo, CO, and Nathan Andersen of Phoenix, AZ; his 6 great-grandchildren: Micah, Elexys Jharen, Kyla, Conner, and Bryson, all of Pueblo, CO; his siblings: Russell Andersen and wife Marie of Paullina, Iowa, Bob Andersen and wife Darlene of Sioux City, Iowa, Florence Grosenhieder, Estella Herman, both of LeMars, Iowa, and Richard and Ginger Andersen of Burnsville, MN; many brothers and sisters-in-law, his brothers-In-law: Ronald Penning and his wife Diane of Tucson, AZ, Kenneth Penning and his wife Pat of Omaha, NE, Gordon Criswell and his wife Shirley of LeMars, and Robert Burkard; sisters-in-law: Marilyn Champion of Lake View, Iowa, and Muriel Penning; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Geraldine; his siblings: Helen Harms, Marlene Criswell, Hazel Johnson, Jerry Andersen, many brothers and sisters-in-law: brothers-In-law: Willard Herman, Virgil Johnson, Lowell Penning in infancy, Dennis Penning, Lloyd Penning, Martin Champion, Maurice Harms, and William Grosenheider; sisters-in-law: Lois Burkard, and Darlene Penning; and many nephews and nieces.
Memorial Services will be at 9:30 A.M. Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Chapel of the Chimes in Glendale. Interment will be in Resthaven Park Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary in Glendale, AZ.
