Mr. Abernathy was born May12, 1953 in Floyd County the son of James H. Abernathy and the late, Beatrice (Sutton) Abernathy, was of the Baptist faith and attended Northpointe Church in Adairsville. He was a Deputy Sheriff with the Bartow County Sheriff’s Department, was a retired Lieutenant, loved fishing and was a veteran member of the Bartow County Bass Club.
Surviving is his wife, Marie Garland Abernathy of Cartersville, four children, Robby and Cathy Abernathy,
Christy Abernathy, Stefanie Abernathy, all of Adairsville, Seth and Hope Morton of Cartersville, step children, Julie and Alex Payne, Wendy and Tony Evans, all of Cartersville, thirteen grandchildren, his father and step-mother, James and Bobbie Jean Abernathy of Acworth, formerly of Adairsville, a sister and brother in law, Teresa and Randy Robinson of Acworth, a niece, Jamie Mealor and a nephew, Lance Robinson, all of Adairsville, and very special friends, Terry White, Aaron Otting and Mike Morris.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 29 2012, at 11:00 A.M. at Northpointe Church in Adairsville with Rev. Keith Milner and Rev. Clay Willis officiating.
The body will lie in state at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
Burial will follow in East View Cemetery in Adairsville.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Members of the Bartow County Sheriff’s Department and The Patriot Guard will serve as Honor Guard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Sutton, Lance Robinson, Dean Sutton, Alex Payne, Tony Evans, Cory Reynolds, Colby Adams and Jamie Minor.
