NEW IBERIA – Funeral services will be celebrated for Karl J. Arceneaux, Sr., age 75, on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Evangeline Funeral Home. Fr. Gene Tremie, pastor of St. Marcellus Catholic Church, will officiate. Karl will be laid to rest at 1:30 pm in the Port Hudson National Cemetery in Zachary, LA with full military honors by the Navy.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia on Monday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with the Rosary being recited at 6:30 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Tuesday from 8:00 am until services.
Karl was born June 29, 1937 in Weeks Island, LA to Harry Arceneaux, Sr. and Irene Pichoff Arceneaux, and passed away peacefully just hours after his 75th birthday on Saturday, June 30, 2012. He was retired from the United States Navy as a Radioman Petty Officer 1st Class with over 20 years of service to his country.
Karl loved to travel and saw much of the United States and visited abroad as well. He was a wood craftsman, collected model trains, and was an excellent artist (with many of his paintings adorning the walls of his home). He was a kind man with a joking spirit, and loved being with family and friends. He leaves behind many fond memories that will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of five years, Helen Broussard Arceneaux of New Iberia; two children, Kirt Arceneaux and Dearyl Lynn Arceneaux both of Harvey; 15 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; five step-children, Lauralee Migues and husband Shannon of New Iberia, Mark Ridge of New Iberia, Eddie Ridge and wife Carolyn of Mandeville, Brad Ridge and wife Susan of Scott, and Debbie Burke and husband Joe of Youngsville; 5 step-grandchildren; and his sisters, Juanita Motika of San Antonio and Elsie Savin of New Iberia..
He was preceded in death by two sons, Karl (Chip) Arceneaux, Jr. and James Ray Arceneaux; a grandchild, Kayla Arceneaux; his first wife, Elodie Hamilton Arceneaux; parents, Harry and Irene Arceneaux, Sr.; a step-brother, Tony Arceneaux; and a step-sister, Elizabeth Pichoff.
Pallbearers will be members of the family and friends.
