Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Natalie (Fernandes) Rogers-Schelter, he was a life-long resident of the area.
Mr. Fernandes served on the USS Phobos in the US Navy during WWII. He worked as a Cloth Cutter at Cliftex for over thirty years before retiring. He was a member of the Andrews-Dahill Post 1531 VFW and was a former member of the Panthers Golden Ages.
Besides his wife he is survived by a son Steven Fernandes of New Bedford; a step-son, Stephen D. Francis and his wife Coleen of Vineyard Haven; step-grandson, Christopher Francis also of Vineyard Haven; four grandchildren; several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also the step-father of the late Michael Francis and brother of the late Clevia Braley and Evelyn Fournier.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral mass Friday, August 3, 2012 at 9 AM in St. Mary’s Church, Tarkiln Hill Rd, New Bedford. Burial with Military Honors will follow in MA National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
