She completed high school in Talbot County, GA, and graduated from Rabun
Gap/Nacoochee Junior College. She is predeceased by daughter, Donna Elizabeth
Andrews McClintock, granddaughter, Lori Genevieve Langford, and great-
granddaughter, Sophia Genevieve Langford. Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Jere (Jeretha) and Wayne Langford of Sautee Nacoochee, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Gail and David Tumlin of LaGrange, GA; and son-in-law, Donald and Kathy McClintock of Columbus, GA. Gran enjoyed life and especially her seven grandchildren, Wayne (Shirley), Langford, Stone Mountain, GA, Rachel (Michael) Luna-Victoria, Longmont, CO, Michelle (Curt) Nation, LaGrange, GA, Cathryn (Jay) Johnson, Tyler, TX, Shannon (Byron) Price, Atlanta, GA, Drew McClintock, Charlotte, NC, Leah (Taylor) Carmichael, Athens, GA, and ten great-grandchildren, Jared and Dylan Nation, Regan and Ryan Price, Ronan and Maya Luna-Victoria, Audrey and P.J. Johnson, Fiona Langford, and Wilson Carmichael, as well as her many nieces and nephews both actual and “adopted”. “Vi” lived most of her life in Columbus, GA subsequently living in Gainesville, GA and LaGrange, GA. At time of death, she was residing at Magnolia Hills Assisted Living, Demorest, GA. She was known as a fun-loving, spunky, straight-shooter with a
“get it done” style but her most notable trait was her sense of humor. Vi often said,
“Don’t put ‘Miss Vi” on my grave because I didn’t miss a thing. Her many talents
included sewing all her daughters’ clothes during their school years and, in later life, painting. She was also very fond of growing and arranging flowers. Beside her artistic talents, she was skilled at tax preparation for herself and others. After retiring, she traveled, read, worked crossword puzzles, and especially enjoyed being the matriarch of her large family.
Vi worked as a teacher, bookkeeper, and florist. The last 20 years of her
working career were spent at Muscogee County Department of Family and Children’s Services. Her final position there was supervising nursing home eligibility staff in 10 central GA counties.
The Remembrance and Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012, at 11:00 am in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA with private interment in Parkhill Cemetery, Columbus, GA. Family will be available at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 28, 2012. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice or Rabun Gap/Nacoochee Junior College Scholarship Fund, 339 Nacoochee Drive, Rabun Gap, GA 30568.
