Cornell, Pete M. of Port Charlotte, FL formerly of Ann Arbor, MI died Thursday, July 26, 2012 he was 64. Peter was born in Lansing, MI on October 14, 1947 the son of Merland and Laura Cornell. He graduated from Lansing Everett High School and was an accomplished wrestler and honored as Michigan State Wrestling Champ in 1965. He went on to the University of Michigan and was on the freshmen football team in 1966, he was also named All American and Captain of the University of Michigan Wrestling Team from 1968 until graduating in 1969 as well as the NCAA runner-up in 1969. In 2010 he was inducted in the Greater Lansing Area Sports Hall of Fame. Peter was a life-long member of the real estate community in Ann Arbor including owner of Cornell-Morris Real Estate Company, Ann Arbor Board of Realtors as the Executive Vice President from 1992 to 1994 and as the CEO from 1995 to 2004, past President (1989) of the Michigan Association of Realtors, and served on the board of the National Association of Realtors. Pete enjoyed fishing, dancing, waterskiing and weight lifting but most of all he was an avid cyclist cycling the 4 corners of the USA completing 9,223 miles in 89.5 days among many other cycling trips. It was on his cycling trip from Prudhoe Bay, AK to Key West, FL with less than 7 days and 700 miles to the finish that his life was taken in an early morning accident in Georgia. Peter is survived by his loving children; Amy (Matthew) Armstrong and Dan(Jennifer) Cornell, his partner; Sue Pavlat, grandchildren; Sarah and Hannah Lewis and Alice and Laura Cornell, sister; Jean Chapman, Dorothy hays and Barb (Duane) Fowler. He is also survived by his beloved dog Buddy, several nieces, nephews, family members and close friends. Family and friends will gather to remember and celebrate Peter’s life at Muehlig Funeral Chapel on Friday August 3, 2012 from 1:00 until 2:30 P.M. and then proceed to Bethlehem United Church of Christ for a memorial service at 3:00 P.M.
