He was born in Somerville, MA, and moved to Stuart area in the late 1950’s, coming from Wakefield, MA. He retired an electrician after many years for Commonwealth Electric. He was the oldest surviving WWII Veteran in Martin Co. He was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of the IBEW Union, the Elks Lodge # 1870 in Stuart, FL, Masonic Lodge # 163 in Stuart, FL, founding member of the Stuart VFW Post # 4194, and lifetime member of the Jensen Beach VFW Post #10066, American Legion Post #126 and Am Vets Post #92 all of Jensen Beach, FL.
Authur's decorations and citations from WWII were European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and Ribbon w/1 Silver Service Star, World War II Victory Medal and Ribbon, French Croix De Guerre Americ Campaign Medal and Ribbon American Defense Service Medal and Ribbon Bronze Star Medal. He was in the battles and campaigns at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Anna Archibald of Jensen Beach, FL, two daughters, Donna Nauss of Indiantown, FL, Kathy Nichlos of Beverly, MA, son, Don (Jinja) Archibald of Indiantown, FL, two step-sons, Rick (Kathy) Drew of Leroy Township, OH and Mark Drew of Jensen Beach, FL, 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his two brothers, Herb and George Archibald, and sister, Mae and a grandson.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, August 12th at the Jensen Beach VFW Post # 10066, 1805 NE Savannah Road, Jensen Beach, FL 34957 at 1:30 PM.
