Sabra Alford, age 97, of Orlando, Florida, passed from life on August 10, 2012. She was born in 1915, daughter of Berry and Angie Sessions in Ringling, Oklahoma. Sabra married Curtis E. Alford of Ardmore, Oklahoma in 1935. They moved to Lake Jackson, Texas in 1945 to work in the Lake Theatre. Mr. Alford was the projectionist and Mrs. Alford was the cashier and later the manager of the theater. The Lake Jackson Historical Museum honored Mrs. Alford with a full-sized figure of her selling tickets in the Lake Theatre display. She worked at the Lake Theatre for 47 years, and was well known and liked in the town. She hired and trained many teenagers to work the concession stand, the first job for many of them. She was a lifelong Methodist and a member of the First Methodist Church of Lake Jackson for 52 years, where she occasionally taught Sunday School to primary students. She had many friends in Lake Jackson, including those in the Friendship Club. Mrs. Alford also volunteered at the Lake Jackson hospital for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis, and by her five brothers: Sanson, Walter, James, B. P., and Jerry. She is survived by one daughter, Sherry Soloff, of Orlando, Florida, two grandsons, Barry T. Soloff of Orlando, Florida, and Louis L. Soloff of Narragansett, Rhode Island, Louis's wife Roberta, and one great-grandson, Curtis J. Soloff, and many nieces and nephews to whom she will always be Aunt Sabra. Family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 9:00 am, Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the Restwood Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Restwood Memorial Park. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Peace United Methodist Church, 13502 Town Loop Blvd., Orlando, Florida 32837 or First United Methodist Church, 404 Azalea, Lake Jackson, Texas.
