Bobby Wayne Mizell, 80, of Greenwood, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Fort Smith Mercy Hospital, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born on September 28, 1931 in Greenwood, Arkansas to Ernest and Opal Mizell. He was a co-owner of Mizell Chevrolet in Booneville for 25 years and previously worked at Smith Chevrolet and Holsum Bread Company. He was a member of the Greenwood First Baptist Church and active in many civic organizations. He was a past president of the Kiwanis International in Booneville and Greenwood, past president of the Logan County Fair Association, Sebastian County Fair and Rodeo Association, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Harris-Hannah V.F.W Post #6527, and the South Sebastian County Historical Society. Bobby proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bobby was a collector of the turn of the twentieth century radios, hit and miss motors and miniature trains. He enjoyed traveling so much the he and his beloved wife Martha traveled every state in the U.S. He loved helping and doing for others. He lived and breathed “A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed.”
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Martha; one daughter, Tammy Kennedy and husband, Bud of Jonesboro; one son, Robert Mizell of Kentucky; two grandchildren, Haley and Claire Kennedy; one brother, Roy Mizell and wife, Yvonne of Greenwood; two nephews, Randy Mizell and wife, Melinda and their children, Bill and Brody Mizell and Rusty Mizell; in-laws, Mary Nichols, Lois and Shell Brandon, Joe and Karen Nichols, Christine Nichols and many more lovely family and friends. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Opal Mizell, his uncle and aunt, R.A. and Mary Ellen Mack and two brothers-in-law, J.C. and Donnie Nichols.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the Greenwood First Baptist Church with burial at Cross Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home. Viewing will be Friday from 1 – 8 p.m. at the Greenwood First Baptist Church, where the family will visit with friends from 6 – 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Brent Carr, Jim Bynum, Tom Wilhite, A.C. Brown, John Paul Wells, Gary Grimes, Mike Redd, Kenneth Edwards, Jerry Efurd and Larry Stockton. Honorary pallbearers will be Rusty Mizell, Bill Mizell, Brody Mizell, Roy Mizell, H.B. Stewart, Dr. James Burgess, Delbert Stallings, Roy Moss, Travis Hawkins, Randy Mizell, Charlie Bishop, Willie Don Solesbee, Ronnie Mack, Randy Brown, Jeral Hampton, Foy Brown, John Paul Walker, Larry Craig Life Group, Greenwood Fire Department, Sebastian County EMS, Kiwanis Focus on Greenwood Group, Harris-Hannah V.F.W. Post #6527 and the Greenwood Parks Commission.
