It is with great sadness that the family of William “Bill” H. Allmen, Jr. announces his passing on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, he was 70. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a five-year courageous battle with cancer.
Bill was born in Oxnard on September 23, 1941 to Lois and William H. Allmen, Sr. He attended St. John’s Lutheran School and Oxnard High School. Bill graduated from Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska and received his Masters Degree in Math from California State University, Northridge. He was a Math and Computer science teacher for 41 years, teaching for seven years at two Lutheran High Schools on Long Island, New York and the last 34 years, he taught Math and Computer science at Buena High School in Ventura. Bill was everyone’s “favorite teacher”. He also coached football, basketball and wrestling. Bill was on the Swim Team and Water Polo Team at both High School and College and was a Lifeguard for many summers.
Bill met and married the love of his life Christie in New York and was happily married for 46 years. He is survived by his loving wife Christie; two sons Keith (wife Lindi) and Kurt (wife Floriana); as well as his six adoring grandchildren Tobias, Keaton, Billy, Francisca, Jaden and Mathis. He is also survived by his five siblings, Annette Birch, Elaine Campbell, John Allmen, Ilene Edgein and Alice Peterson and many nieces and nephews.
He was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir, served as Chairman of the Trustees, Youth Director and also ran the sound system for Sunday Services.
Throughout his life he enjoyed camping, fishing, swimming, biking, traveling and spending time with his family. He loved trains and built a large layout for his Lionel trains. His grandchildren loved playing trains with their “Papa Choo Choo”.
Bill will be remembered for his devotion to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, as well as his gentle heart, kindness, family values and incredible work ethic and will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him. “A faithful man will be richly blessed” Proverbs 28:20.
A visitation will take place at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura on Saturday, August 25, 2012, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
There will be a celebration of his life on Sunday, August 26, 2012, 3:00 p.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1500 North “C” Street, Oxnard, 93030. In of lieu flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Memorial Fund at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home.
