Richard Edwin Jones, 82, died on August 24, 2012. Born in Baltimore, Maryland to John Richard Jones and Elenora Mary Brooks Jones. He graduated from Belair High School in 1947. Joined the US Navy in 1948 and retired after 20+ years of dedicated service. He then pursued an 18 year Federal Civil Service Career in the Electronics Calibration Lab at NAS Jacksonville, FL as an Electronics Mechanic and Instructor.
His memberships included Albert J. Russell Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Morocco Shrine Temple and VFW. He was considered an expert on the Tucker Automobile, helped start the Tucker Automobile Club and was Senior Historian. He was employed by Lucas Film while making the Tucker movie that starred Jeff Bridges.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Betty, his sister Eleanor and brother Leslie. He is survived by two children Karen Jones-Turkel of Kingsland, GA and Brian Jones of Orange Park, FL and grandson, Nicholas Jones of Orange Park, FL, sister, Rosalie McKnown, Denver, CO, sister, Lois Robert Delta PA and brother Irv Jones of Anderson SC.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at HARDAGE-GIDDENS RIVERMEAD FUNERAL HOME, 127 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, FL with visitation held one hour prior to service from 9:30-10:30 AM. Burial will be 2:30 PM Tuesday at Jacksonville National Cemetery, Lannie Rd in Jacksonville, where he will be reunited with Betty.
