Ruth Elizabeth (Lahman) Adame, age 86, of Alhambra, California died September 1, 2012. Ruth was born on August 4, 1926 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Carroll Pollock Lahman and Hazel Robinson Lahman. She was preceded in death by her husband Jonathan Adame, her parents, and her brother Robinson Lahman. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Ruth was married to Jonathan Adame on June 5, 1953. Throughout their married lives, Ruth and Jon lived in the South Pasadena area.
Ruth earned her Bachelors degree from The University of Redlands in Sociology. She retired after her career as a Social Caseworker for Los Angeles County.
She and Jon were very active and generous in support of their home congregation First United Methodist of Alhambra beginning in 1968. Ruth was extremely active within the United Methodist Women organization both in the Alhambra congregation and in the Pasadena District UMW. She was vice-president of the local UMW this year and last presided over a meeting on January 25, 2012.
Ruth was an active member of the Pasadena League of Women Voters, served on the City of South Pasadena Natural Resources Commission, and, among the numerous organizations she supported was People for People, an organization that is concerned with the hungry in the San Gabriel Valley, as well as Union Station Homeless Services. For many years, Ruth taught English as a second Language through the Frank Laubach Literacy program.
Ruth moved to Alhambra from South Pasadena and became a resident of the Atherton Baptist Home assisted living community in September 2006.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 10:30 in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church of Alhambra under the leadership of Pastor Richard Bentley. Ruth’s ashes will be interred in the Franklin Grove Cemetery in Franklin Grove, Illinois.
