Calvin Raybon Demeritt, 77, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 16, 2012. Calvin was born in Goosport to Raybon and Agnes Demeritt. He attended Marion High School, leaving early to join the U.S. Navy in 1955. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church Moss Bluff where he served as head of ushers for many years. He enjoyed deer and elk hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He also enjoyed the company of his friends at Randy’s Barber Shop in Moss Bluff.
Calvin is survived by three daughters, and sons-in-law, Debbie and Craig Domingues of Asheville, NC, Cindy and Ken McKnight of Mandeville, LA, and Deanna and Stacey Woodlee of Moss Bluff, LA; three granddaughters, Sara Bailey of Leicester, NC, and Erin and Morgan Woodlee of Moss Bluff, LA; two great granddaughters, Danielle and Keri Penley of Leicester, NC; and one sister, Elouise Greathouse. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and other family members, and many dear friends.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 43 years, Marjorie S. Demeritt; and one sister, Nona Mae Burr.
His funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Hixson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff. Reverend Ray Swift will officiate. Burial will be in Old Ritchie Cemetery in Moss Bluff. Visitation will be at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm and continue on Wednesday from 8:00 am until the start of the service.
Memorials may be made to the Acts 1:8 missions fund at First Baptist Church Moss Bluff, Amedisys Hospice, or the American Cancer Society.
