Mike was born to Edward Marshall and Nova Ruth Hughes on October 15, 1946 in Center, TX. Mike was a proud United States Marine having fought in the Vietnam War and was presented with two purple hearts for his bravery in combat. Mike then spent many years working in the foodservice industry where he met and remained close friends with many of his co-workers and customers.
Mike’s greatest joy was his family. He was married to Theresa Combest Hughes, his sole mate of 28 years. He leaves behind a son, Christopher Michael Hughes and his wife Ashley; a daughter, Alison Ruth Hughes. Family was Mike’s number one priority. Then came his favorite job of all: being “PaPa” to his two beautiful granddaughters, Kinsey Nicole and Kylar Brooke. Those also left to cherish his memory are his brother Charles Hughes and his wife Joyce, and his sister Mary Bondurant and her husband Will as well as numerous nieces, nephews and devoted friends. Mike was preceeded in death by his parents, and his father-in-law: Wallace Combest.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to HeartsWay Hospice for their excellent care and compassion shown to Mike and to Dr. Dembla and his oncology staff at the V.A. Medical Center in Shreveport, LA.
The family would also like to thank everyone for all of their love and support during the last 11 months of Mike’s illness. Your prayers, cards, and phone calls meant more than can be expressed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to HeartsWay Hospice or to the Alzheimer’s Association of Northeast Texas.
A memorial service in Mike’s honor will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at the Chapel of Lakeview Funeral Home with Father Mark Dunn and Rev. Danny Warbington officiating.
