George Burgan was born on Aug 1, 1928, in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Rev. Nathan and Hannah Burgan. He was one out of nine children. He was raised in a Christian home, going to Sunday school and church every Sunday. He taught BYTU (Baptist Youth Training Unit) to younger children.
George married Madolyne Jackson (deceased), moved to Cleveland and as a result of this marriage Clement was born. Still looking for a better life he then moved to Boston where he met and married Addie Lee Ruggs. As a result of this union they had two children, Georgina and Linda.
George became a member of Concord Baptist Church singing with the Gospel Group, Spiritual Wonders. He later joined in a family Gospel group singing with his sisters and niece. George became a Mason with the M.W. George Washington Carver Grand Lodge, Inc. in 1976.
He always had a dream of being his own boss. His DREAM was to be SELF-EMPLOYED. That's what he believed in, and that's what he did.
His first business was Burgan's Superette, in Roxbury, MA with his son Clement by his side, helping him to achieve his goal. They worked many days and long hours with the help of family, cousins, Ralph Smith and people who needed employment within the community.
Years went by, the area changed, and George believed it was time to make a change. He sold the store, but he still had his DREAM, which he would always say “work for yourself, be your own boss”. That's when G&B CLEANING CO. began and continued for 39 years, and again, many family and people from the community who needed a job work with him. George worked throughout Framingham, Ashland, and at the Hopkinton Post Office, Greater Framingham Community Church and various businesses and residential homes in the MetroWest area. George kept this business until he retired, which was the day before "God said “Time to come home". George Burgan always believed in himself and George Burgan lived his DREAM.
George will always be remembered singing "When I come to the end of my journey, He'll understand and say well done!
George leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 57 years, Deacon Addie Burgan; his Children, Clement Burgan (Pat) of Cleveland, OH, Georgina LaVan (William) of Milford, MA, Linda Atkins (Lewis) of Webster, MA, Rose Simms of Houston, TX, 7 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews, and other family and friends.
