She was born on August 19, 1921 in Rutland, VT, daughter of Roy Frederick Bailey and Jessie Ellen Clark Bailey. She more recently resided at The Promenade at Blue Hill and then Buckingham at Norwood. She married Calvin Cooper Blauvelt in 1949 and was married for 61 years.
Muriel studied at the Methodist Hospital Brooklyn School of Nursing and received her Registered Nurse degree (RN). She worked at Nyack Hospital and later became Head Nurse on the stroke unit at Helen Hayes Hospital, retiring in 1984.
She was a dedicated member of the Stony Point Presbyterian Church and the Stony Point Ambulance Corps until retiring to Lady Lake, FL, in 1986. She joined the Christ United Methodist Church and built many close friendships there. She belonged to the Women’s Organization and loved to spend time crafting items for the church bazaar.
Surviving are her brother, Reverend George Bailey, children, William Blauvelt, Highland Falls, NY, Gary and Joanne Blauvelt, Stony Point, NY, Ronald and Elizabeth Blauvelt, Fort Montgomery, NY, Susan and Randy Birch, Chincoteague, VA, Karen Blauvelt, Jesup, GA, and Donna and William Brown, Millstone Township, NJ, eleven grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Calvin Blauvelt, sister, Margie Strout, and grandson, David Blauvelt.
Family will receive visitors at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 73 N. Liberty Drive, Stony Point, NY 10980 from 6-9pm on Thursday, Service at 8pm. Private cremation to follow.
